Sunniva Inn is a beautiful, historic, home built in 1903 filled with authentic charm including the original light fixtures and woodwork and the painted ceilings done by the original builder J.P. Moe. The luscious gardens add a sense of calm and relaxation. Each guest room has its own unique style and feel including: Victorian, mid-century modern, modern-rustic and Zen/spa-like.
Hosts are Jill and Rob Schuettpelz. They both grew up in small towns so moving to Mount Horeb from Madison “feels like coming home” the couple said. Jill works in IT at a Madison healthcare organization. She has a true passion for cooking. Rob is a CPA with his own consulting practice specializing in helping not for profit organizations. They both love hiking and biking on all the local trails near Mount Horeb. Their son Andrey will be a senior at Mount Horeb High School this coming year and their daughter Kate just graduated high school and is looking forward to her next life adventure.
When asked why a Bed and Breakfast, Rob replied “A B&B has always been the place of choice when Jill and I have gone traveling over the years. To us, it has felt more personal and relaxing than staying at a large hotel. We love getting a chance to meet new people, both the host and the other guests. We have always wanted to be able to provide that same experience for other travelers.
Pronounced Su-NIY-Vaa, the Bed and Breakfast embodies Mount Horeb’s strong Scandinavian heritage. Sunniva is a Norwegian patron saint and the name itself means “Gift of the Sun”. The Schuettpelz searched long and hard for a name that was right for them and fell in love with Sunniva as soon as they found it.
In addition to cooking a delicious breakfast in the mornings, Sunniva Inn offers high-speed internet throughout the house and outdoor spaces so people can stay connected for either work or pleasure. They provide secure storage in the garage for bikes or other toys that people may bring. They are looking to put together packages for guests to choose from such as birthday or anniversary romantic get-a-way.
