Native Art Marketplace Welcomes Families to 6th Annual Event!
The Driftless Historium (100 S 2nd St, downtown Mount Horeb) will host the 6th Annual Native Art Marketplace, an invitational Native art showcase, on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19, 2024, from10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. This celebration of the art and culture of Wisconsin’s First People is an ongoing partnership initiative of the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society (MHAHS) and Little Eagle Arts Foundation (LEAF) of Wisconsin Dells.
Award-winning Native artists will exhibit and offer their work for sale, as well as demonstrate and share stories associated with their process and their culture. “The annual Native Art Marketplace is a favorite community event; we are excited and proud to again bring together such a diverse and talented group of Native artists and culture bearers,” noted MHAHS Director Destinee Udelhoven.
Featured artwork includes a range of traditional and contemporary artforms, from black ash baskets and beadwork to paintings and jewelry. A slate of complementary programs presented by experienced Native performers and educators will further highlight the traditions and lifeways of Wisconsin’s many indigenous tribes. Finally, LEAF is offering a free bead and quill friendship bracelet activity that will provide an opportunity for guests, young and old alike, to create their own memento of this special day of cross-cultural fellowship.
Participating artists include Kimberly Crowley (Ho-Chunk Nation) Scott Hill (Oneida Nation), Karen Ann Hoffman (Oneida Nation), Sayokla Kindness (Oneida Nation), Christopher Sweet (Ho-Chunk Nation), Brian Szabo (Rosebud Sioux), and Leah Winnishiek (Ho-Chunk Nation). New and emerging artists Ava Belisle (Oneida Nation) and Sepatis Menomin (Forest County Potawatomi) will be exhibiting for the first time at the Driftless Historium.
This free event is made possible due to the generosity of LEAF and MHAHS supporters and donors. For more information, Contact the Driftless Historium for more information: (608) 437-6486 or email mthorebahs@gmail.com.
