Experience the world of Balfolk music and dance, a folk dance revival movement growing in popularity in Europe, the United States, and beyond! Balfolk pulls from a variety of folk dance traditions, featuring dances from France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. At this Balfolk “Barn Dance” on October 5 you will enjoy familiar dances like the waltz, schottishe, and polka, along with not-so-familiar dances like the polska, bourrée, aleman’s marsj/chapelloise, gavotte and more. Fan-favorite, Minneapolis-based dance caller Bob Walser will provide step-by-step dance instruction and inclusive teaching, making it easy to follow along!
The evening’s music will be provided by the McNordiques & Friends, a unique ensemble featuring Bob Walser, Renee Vaughan, Dan Newton, Elizabeth Rowan, and Tom Klein. The McNordiques play a wide variety of instruments, including accordion, nyckelharpa, cittern, pipes, and even the washboard! Whether you're a dance enthusiast or simply love listening to great music, you’re invited to this evening of Balfolk fun!
