Delia Nilsson has heard stories of an amazing land where the weather is never cold, the pigs are big as cows and the streets are paved with gold: Amerika! But is she brave enough to leave Sweden for Minneapolis? Help her make her decision in this interactive living history program, based on letters and diaries set in the early 1900s. The Driftless Historium will host Minnesota children’s author and professional storyteller Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux (as Delia Nilsson), on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. This event, best for children ages 8 to 12 and open to all, is free. Cookies and juice will be available after the performance for all attendees. “Delia’s Decision” is part of the Driftless Historium’s 2019 theme, “Immigrants of Wisconsin: Yesterday and Today.” With financial supported generously provided by the Mount Horeb Community Foundation, the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society is excited to host a 2019 series of exhibits and programs exploring the history and experiences of immigrants from across the world who have lived, loved and lost in Wisconsin. Immigrants and immigration might be a hot button issue—but it is nothing new. A mix of speakers and exhibitions about both early Wisconsin’s foreign-born settlers and current immigration issues and experiences will help audiences make connections and see patterns and change over time.
