A solar informational event and celebration of the growth of solar technology in America will take place Saturday, February 3, at 1 PM. The venue for the event is the Children’s Community School (CCS) located at 1175 Cox Drive in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. The school was recently awarded Climate Champion status by the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC). The school is a net zero facility, creating more energy than it uses. Whether folks are considering solar installation for a home or business or just want to learn more about the benefits of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, everyone is invited to attend. This event will be a primer on solar energy. It will explore the process of harnessing the sun--from concept to installation. Thus, the name of the program, Solar 101. Kathy Kuntz, Executive Director of OECC, will present the Dane County Climate Champion Award to CCS. A solar company representative will discuss the CCS solar installation and attendees can watch solar energy at work in real time. Information will be presented about the tremendous savings available from the Federal Inflation Reduction Act and the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program. Mount Horeb Utility Electrical Supervisor Jordan Schmitz will describe the village’s streamlined permitting process and the advantages of cooperating with a public utility. Attendees will gain an appreciation for how renewable energy can be a game changer for dealing with the climate crisis. On a personal level, they’ll learn whether a solar installation could be beneficial to them. Finally, special door prizes will be awarded to those who attend. This event is sponsored by the Village of Mount Horeb Sustainability and Natural Resource Committee. For more information, contact Trustee Tim White, tim.white@mounthorebwi.info.
