• Mound City Bank Partners with WHEDA for New Home Repair Loan Program

Mount Horeb, WI – Mound City Bank, with a local branch in Mount Horeb, is one of the lenders across the state to partner with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) in offering the recently announced More Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan Program. This statewide initiative, unveiled by Governor Tony Evers, is aimed at helping homeowners of older properties make essential repairs and energy efficiency updates.

The More Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan Program is an income based program providing low-interest loans or grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 for homeowners of houses built before 1984. The program's objective is to increase the safety, stability, and energy efficiency of Wisconsin’s aging housing stock. Eligible homeowners can use the funds for various upgrades, including roofing, windows, exterior doors, insulation, plumbing, electrical systems, heating, and air conditioning.

“We are excited to be part of this program and have already helped many homeowners across the state,” said Amanda McWilliams, AVP-Retail Lending Officer at Mound City Bank. “We want to ensure that our Mount Horeb residents are aware of this opportunity to make vital repairs to their homes. This is a fantastic resource for those needing updates, and we encourage local homeowners to apply as soon as possible to take advantage of this funding.”

Governor Evers has allocated $50 million to this program, which marks the final initiative from the historic $525 million housing legislation signed into law last year. This comprehensive package aims to boost workforce housing and address generational challenges in Wisconsin’s housing market. By improving existing homes, the program helps stabilize property values and ensures long-term affordability for residents, particularly benefiting Wisconsin’s senior homeowners.

WHEDA CEO Elmer Moore Jr. emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “About 60% of single-family homes in Wisconsin were built before 1984 and many need substantial repairs or energy efficiency investments. The More Like Home loan provides affordable funding to make these necessary upgrades, enhancing property values and preventing displacement due to loss of insurance.”

Mound City Bank's participation as a partner lender means that local homeowners can access the application process directly at any of their branch locations. For more information on the More Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan Program or to apply, visit or call the Mount Horeb branch of Mound City Bank. Applications are being processed on a rolling basis, so homeowners are encouraged to apply promptly.
