• Mount Horeb Chamber Celebrates Member's Advocacy Success in Expanding Medicaid Coverage for Ketamine

The Mount Horeb Area Chamber of Commerce proudly acknowledges the significant advocacy efforts of our member, Alan Ferguson, founder of Treatment Assistance Fund, Inc. (TAFI). Ferguson's persistent dedication has been instrumental in the recent policy change by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, which now includes coverage for intravenous (IV) ketamine infusions for Medicaid patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Ferguson and TAFI collaborate with various state Medicaid programs to establish coverage, similar to the coverage now available in Wisconsin. Additionally, they are preparing an application for a National Coverage Determination for Medicare to cover ketamine infusions specifically for clients experiencing suicidal ideation.

Ferguson, a Daleyville resident, established TAFI with a mission to save lives from suicide by increasing awareness of the safety, efficacy, and availability of ketamine infusions. The nonprofit provides direct financial assistance to low-income Wisconsin residents suffering from suicidal ideation, aiding them in accessing these potentially life-saving treatments.

The new Medicaid policy, effective January 1, 2024, covers IV ketamine infusions administered by qualified medical professionals in approved medical settings, provided prior authorization is obtained. This development offers a new treatment avenue for Medicaid recipients, potentially alleviating the financial burden for many individuals seeking relief from severe depression.

The Mount Horeb Area Chamber of Commerce commends Alan Ferguson and the Treatment Assistance Fund, Inc. for their unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy and support.
